Gentlemen,

recently I have had the luck, to purchase a British War Medal.

This medal is engraved with only a name: REES BURMAN, nothing else, no number or regiment or rank.

I have no clue why, can somebody help me, please?

I would like to know what is the reason, and also if somebody can give me some info on this guy.

Best regards

Brian

Born in Swansea in 1876. He should also have the Mercantile Marine Medal.

Assuming that it is the same man, he played football for Knowle FC in the 1890s.

Thank you for your replies guys, much appreciated.

It would indeed make some sense, that he was a civilian in the mercantile navy, and therefore had no rank, number or regiment mentioned on the rim of the medal.

I tried to Google his name, without any luck.

Chris, just out of curiosity, how did you find the info about him playing football for Knowle FC in the 1890s?
