F prefix Middlesex Regt

Hi.

I recently purchased a mixed lot of medals, only one of which I wanted. The others I will move on.

One that has me a little puzzled is this chap which I thought I’d research before selling. This is completey out of my collecting interest.

He is F 2552 Pte. Thomas Ivor Roberts.

I believe that the F is a Footballers Battalion prefix- so 17th and 23rd but his Medal Rolls indicate that he served with 16th and 1/7th Btns of the same Regiment.

Is this simply a case of him originally enlisting with one of the Footballers Btns and then transferring to the above?

Thanks in advance

 Shane

Hi Shane

Yes, enlisted into the Footballers and then if and when battalions needed reinforcements the he would have been transferred but still retained his number.
