Alfred Hayes Manchester Regiment

Alfred Hayes my grandad was in the Manchester regiment in the great war. I cannot find details about his army service anywhere. He was in the first battallion we think and got gassed in 1916, and recuperated in Switzerland or Italy. He later went to Egypt, that`s all we know.He lived to tell the tale but he was weakened by the experience. I understand some records were burnt.

Welcome. Alfred Hayes is quite a common name. Any personal info. - where he lived, year of birth, names of relations - may help the forum to help you.

There is an  Albert Hayes of the Manchesters on the medal roll index cards (Service No 34945) but as Mark suggests without anything further to go on it would be impossible to say if its the same man.
