IanA Posted 10 November , 2019 Share Posted 10 November , 2019 Welcome to the forum. Here's a couple of photos of KOSB men of the Great War. Ian
Steven Broomfield Posted 10 November , 2019 Share Posted 10 November , 2019 As for headgear, by 1917 he would have been wearing a Tam o' Shanter or a Balmoral (probably the former). I have no pictures to hand, but if you Google, or search the Forum, you'll find plenty. It's a bit like a great big beret, slanted with badge over the ear on the left and the brim pulled down over the right ear, and with bobble on top. In khaki. The headdress in the pictres is a Glengarry, more common in the earlier years of the war.
IanA Posted 11 November , 2019 Share Posted 11 November , 2019 Steve makes a fair point but I suspect regimental pride would see most men wanting to hold on to their Glengarry. Here's some of the 4th Battalion in 1917 showing original Glengarries with Tam o' Shanters and tin bowlers.
