Kings Own Scottish Borderers uniform in 1917

Hello I have found out about my grandfather who died in 1917 at the battle of Passendale I was able to go to the war grave in Belguim and I would like to know what uniform he would have worn and what sort of cap  would he have had .Thank you

As for headgear, by 1917 he would have been wearing a Tam o' Shanter or a Balmoral (probably the former). I have no pictures to hand, but if you Google, or search the Forum, you'll find plenty. It's a bit like a great big beret, slanted with badge over the ear on the left and the brim pulled down over the right ear, and with  bobble on top. In khaki.

 

The headdress in the pictres is a Glengarry, more common in the earlier years of the war.

Steve makes a fair point but I suspect regimental pride would see most men wanting to hold on to their Glengarry. Here's some of the 4th Battalion in 1917 showing original Glengarries with Tam o' Shanters and tin bowlers.
