WW1Irish Soldiers and Veterans treatment for shell shock

FROGSMILE

I thought that forum pals might find this article on the difficulties involved in providing ongoing treatment for shell shock in Ireland during the turmoil there between 1916-1922 and onwards: https://www.rte.ie/centuryireland/index.php/articles/treating-the-traumatised-shell-shocked-veterans-in-the-irish-free-state

I was greatly surprised to learn that the service provided continued to be administered and to a large degree funded by the British government until 1979.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

There was tv documentary made in the seventies, which interviewed some of the last war veterans in Leopardstown hospital. It was very interesting, I’d love to see it again if anyone knows of a link.
