What rifle is this part from?

Bought this at Verdun with a lebel bolt which had matching rust but the trigger doesn't look a lebel trigger and I think the bolt is a red herring.

I don't think it's a Lebel or Berthier due the the shape of the trigger. I don't think it's from a G98, M1903(probably the most likely suspect and is my best bet) or M1917 as the receiver bit present on my part doesnt seem to match those rifles.

Thanks for any help and forgive me if it's really obvious and I'm just being ignorant.

My immediate reaction was M1917. But I shall ponder a little more.

What is the distance between the pivot of the bolt stop and the rear bolt?

Chris

Hmmm having second thoughts - an M1917 would have the hole for the receiver mounted safety so perhaps 1898 Mauser (couldn't say rifle or kar)

Not a Lebel or Berthier (they don't have the bolt stop of this design)

The very straight vertical on the right side should be a tell....

I suppose now I'll give up and go and look at my rifles....

OK - second edit - I'm going with a 1898 Mauser but whether it is a Kar or Gew I can't say.

100% is Mauser M98 system, release lever of bolt is missing.

I thought Mauser also as it reminded me of the Turkish ones - but I am no rifle expert!

Interesting.  Dumped alone or with many others?

I don't know, I just bought it for 5€

I assume alone as it was the only one there and it had been matched with a lebel bolt.
