Remembered Today:

What is this?

OLD ROBIN HOOD

Recommended Posts

Greetings from The Royal Hunting Forest of Sherwood, where it is very cold and very damp, sometimes being and outlaw isn't much fun.

I have attached images of an item that I have owned for many years and just can't identify, I haven't a clue what it is.

It is very well made of brown leather, 8 inches long, 2 inches wide and 1 inch deep.  Inside it is divided into 2 equal compartments.

The back is marked  '1- 16'  which I suppose could be 1916. inside the flap it is marked 1.N & D below which 16.

Obviously the 1. N & D will be the 1st Battalion of the Notts and Derby Regiment ( Sherwood Foresters) which is probably why I bought it.

So, if any of you good folk out there have any idea what it is I would be very glad to know.

Hello again Robin,

Its a case for a fife, I have a similar 15 dated one minus the instrument.
