Hi There 

needing some info on this holster 

my father has recently passed and I have found a collection of holsters and bayonets which I have no idea existed

That's a holster for the Swedish Lahti pistol. I believe it would date to WW2 and later, (think the designation was M40). 

 

Sorry to hear about you Dad, but hope this helps. 

Lahti produced between 1935 and 1952 according to wiki.

Back in the 1970s there was advertisements for the Lahti Pistol and holsters and cleaning kits in the old " Guns Review " magazine.

That was in the days when shooters could still buy and use full bore pistols.

Knowing nothing about the Swedish military I should think its the last three digits of his service number and surname. As regards getting back to family, I would personally save your time. I should think the details are too scant to narrow it down. Also this is a government issued item of which many were produced so would likely have limited sentimental value anyway. 

 

This being said if you have Swedish contacts who could facilitate this for you, I wish you all the best.
