It appears that the inscriptions around the edge have been deliberately damaged. I can only make out a few letters but the last 3 letters appear to spell out 'WAR' where the regiment would be. R. or WARWICK. YEO. (Royal Warwickshire Regiment or Warwickshire Yeomanry). As there is a full stop after WAR. then the former former is the most likely.
