R.F.A. Spec. Res. 29.09.17 to be Balloon Officer with seniority from 6th May 1917 but without pay prior to 29th Sept.1917 Layer-Parker R Robert 23.05.1889 Layer-Parker Lt R Robert City of London Yeomanry 2815 Pte. Royal Field Artillery 2Lt. RFC Lt Layer-Parker 2Lt R RFA SR 00.03.18 Balloon Officer Layer-Parker 2Lt R RFA 7 Balloon Section 00.06.17 Balloon Observer (prob) Can anyone explain what these records meant Steve Parker Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
nieuport11 Posted 2 November , 2019 Share Posted 2 November , 2019 He was initially a Private with the City of London Yeomanry, service number 2815 Subsequently he obtained a commission with the Royal Field Artillery He was then attached to the Royal Flying Corps as a Balloon Observer Initially serving with No. 7 Kite Balloon Section who in Feb-June 1917 were part of 9 Balloon Company with 3 Balloon Wing. They were supporting XVII Army in France, based at Barly On 15.6.17 he moved to 16 Kite Balloon Section, who were part of 11 Company 3 Wing supported the VII Army A day later he was admitted to 4 Casualty Clearing Station and on 20.6.17 to No.20 General Hospital He was evacuated to England aboard the hospital ship 'Newhaven' After recovering he joined the Balloon Training Wing in the UK and was subsequently sent to serve in Palestine in December 1917 In March 1918 he was with 50 Balloon Section, part of 21 Balloon Company in Palestine He at Port Said in January 1919 awaiting transfer to the UK and on arrival in the UK went to 2 Balloon Training Wing awaiting demob He was transferred to the unemployed list in April 1919 His military record is in AIR 76/388/34 https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D8213333 And movement card for France is here: https://www.casualtyforms.org/form/18129 He also an Army record in WO 339/58702: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1112543 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
