Book on Signal Girls

good afternoon everybody,

Still into my research on the women who died during the war, I was wondering if there exists a comprehensive source on the Signal Girls and women telegraphists that worked in the war on the British side. a book that one could read, articles???

There's a bit online, but not enough to make me have a good idea of their work as a whole.

Thanks for your help,

M.

British perhaps look at FANY side of things. At the time the Royal Cops of signals didn't exist but was part of the Royal Engineers. Regiments had signallers attached to them. What is the reason behind your research ? We run a re-enactment group called Signals & Ciphers that covers a lot of this, but no signal book on the subject, it is very much a piece it together thing !

The signal girls were members of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps {WAAC}, later known a Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps {QMAAC}. The book "The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in France 1917-1921" by Samantha Philo-Gill covers the WAAC in detail, and signal girls are mentioned a few times.

Thanks Alf,

I have the book on the WAACs, but was looking for a more detailed work about only the signals…
