Thank you Diane, good to make contact with you again. Did you ever complete your project of war grave photo's ?

^_^

I'm in the process of updating/sorting my records as I have a number of new casualties [and a fair few of unknown clippings] but, as I don't have a sub to Ancestry at the moment, things have quietened down somewhat for now

Welcome to the GWF Wenda.

Ernest's MM index card here: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D6178406 reveals that he was serving with 6th Bn. KOYLI and attached to 43 Brigade Signal Section when he earned the MM; so 43 Infantry Brigade WD may be the best place to look first: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14017561

The award of his MM may have been mentioned in the 6th Battalion KOYLI war diary. His MM was likely awarded for 3rd Ypres (Passchendaele), September/October 1917, as that particular gazette covered that period.

His death may have been listed in the 9th battalion's diary. It will at least show what was happening at the time. Sad that he died 4 days before the Armistice!

Worth a look as it is currently FREE to download it from TNA: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7353176

The signal section would have been part of 14 Division Divisional Signal Company (the sections were attached to Divisional HQ, HQ of each Brigade that made up the division, and by this stage of the war, the divisional artillery), so their war diary would also be worth a read https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7352714
