Aside from this site which are reliable on line sources for researching the war in the air 1916-18 ?  I have books but am beginning to expand my research.

thanks

I also recommend looking at https://www.casualtyforms.org/ which deals with movements to and from the BEF etc.  Much if not all of this information has now been included in the airhistory records which Steve has mentioned but I still like to refer back to the originals.  Do note though that occasionally the clerks got rather muddled and put one person's records on someone else's form so do treat them with an open mind.

The RAF museum storyvault archive is also worth a search although much of this I think is also in airhistory: http://www.rafmuseumstoryvault.org.uk/pages/raf_vault.php?

Finally, good old Google (or whatever search engine you favour) is always worth a try for researching individuals - as long as you're a bit careful about the search terms, use quotation marks where appropriate, and if necessary check through several pages of results.  It is surprising how often one can pick up references that way.  You have to assess the reliability of each for yourself of course but that's how I found that one flight sergeant mentioned in a diary later founded an airline, a Corporal engine fitter stayed in the RAF and died a Wing Commander in 1944,  and a few lieutenants and Captains ended up as Air Marshalls!
