My GrtGrt Uncles Medals

Hi

My 2nd Grt Uncle died on the 22/061916 aged 24 serving with the Royal Engineers as a Sapper 71746 & is buried in St Pol.

l am trying to find out what medals he would have received for his service.

Many thanks for your advanced help in this matter

Hi Rich and welcome to the forum

 

What was his name? Thomas Greig? He was entitled to the British War Medal and the Victory Medal (he didn't serve overseas before 1916).

You should be able to view his Medal Index Card on Ancestry free of charge.

 

Take a look at the Long Long Trail link above as that has loads of useful information on how to research a soldier.

Thankyou David for your swift reply yes his name was Thomas Greig ..sounds like he had a short war? really sad  We understand he along with 6 others were killed in an air raid ...they are now buried side by side .
