RaySearching Posted 21 October , 2019 Author Share Posted 21 October , 2019 I will go with the majority interpretation (Enteric Fever) Thanks all for the replies Google tells me that it is also known as Interic fever (Typhoid Fever) Regards Ray
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 21 October , 2019 Share Posted 21 October , 2019 1 hour ago, RaySearching said: Google tells me that it is also known as Interic fever (Typhoid Fever) The root of the word is 'Enter.. from the Greek 'Enteron' meaning 'Small intestine' and -itis (inflammation). The root isn't 'Inter..', so it can never have been correct to write 'Interitis' or 'Interic Fever'. But like the Grocer's Apostrophy, and the modern nonsense of 'Should/would of' instead of the correct ' Should/Would have', it seems to have gathered traction, particularly in the far flung corners of the empire, like Egypt and India.
