Really enjoyed looking at those books , reminded me of the days of the military and naval book fairs ( if only some of those books had been for sale then ! )

Well chaps, how did the day  go then?????

I see the results sheet is now online.  The 2 items that  stand out are the Beddoes watercolours of the London blitz -£19,000 etc-an institutional customer?????   And the 3 successive lots of  memorial volumes-all 3 comfortably into the 4 figure mark.  I noticed that one of those lots never got illustrated but someone-or in reality at least 2-had done their homework on the Tom Donovan bibliography (now to be revised with new entries??)

Most of it looked pretty straightline prices to my eye. So I expect to hear some details from some happy bunnies. Come on chaps, fess up-what was in the memorials lots???

I hope that all who viewed or went had an enjoyable day. The spread of mid-range prices suggests that a few, rather than one, person, went away happy.

Was an under bidder on one lot, not official histories, but had not viewed the lot in person.

There was only the odd book in some of the lots, so I didn’t bid. I’m just hoping whichever dealer bought them will get in touch.

I'm sure the dealers will do well , the 'sleeper' did seem like it was the lot that wasn't photographed , I should imagine they will get quite a bit of their money back

on the three books that were listed alone , i would like to know what was on the three shelves that weren't mentioned . Whoever purchased the 'On Active Service'

lot will also do well i expect .

So then chaps- will you all be sitting by your postboxes for the next few months for when the catalogues arrive?   I suspect we can work out who bought the memorial lots anyway.

To be honest although there were lots of great books i didn't see any that i would want to buy ( unless they were very cheap ! )

I was watching the auction, or more important my wife was as we drove up to Sheffield. Many of the lots in the early part of the sale failed to sell, When it came to Bob's books they did all move, like I said I bid on one lot the Fortesue's, it was a dj set but not firsts. I had not inspected it,s o was not inclined to bid. There were some bargains to be had in the OH's.

It seems my usual local dealer bought most of them. Just waiting for the phone call.

Quel non surprise, mon brave.   An interesting thought as to who the underbidder was then.  Hammer prices take two to tango

I suspect 11 rooms of books may have been too much even for our Brighton friend.

The blurb in Winter's catalogue  about Bob Wyatt says that he was an extensive collector of other items as well-notably local topography.

Look on the bright side. My colleague on the South Coast works very hard indeed as a specialist and always surprises me with the range of out-of-the-way books that he has. That takes a lot of graft. He has expert knowledge and the bright side is that he does send you lot his catalogues.  I think his prices are fair and if he has a tough price on something then it is because it is a tough item to get. A specialist such as he will often charge a tough price but make a small margin-having paid a tough price-simply to have the goodies for his "regulars".

As he would say- "You lucky people"

Image result for tommy trinder you lucky people

Indeed. Without Tom’s regular catalogues my collection would be a mere shadow of its present state. He’s already sold me one from this sale with more to come I hope.

I hope he added on the cost of the petrol burn he saved by not going to South Cerney....Only fair...

First fruit of the Wyatt collection. Sadly Bob doesn’t seem to have left any indication of his ownership in the book.

Perhaps a little pencil note on an endpaper from you to note provenance?   A nice item. Never realised that the author was the "Tsavo" man.

Good idea. I see Bob’s copy of ‘Togoland and the Cameroons’ has just gone on ABE.
