Guest Posted 17 October , 2019 Share Posted 17 October , 2019 Reading the history of the two battalions of the 21st London Regiment, there were 20 O.R.s on the Roll of Honour as Died at sea, does anyone have any idea as to what the cause was please as I have been through both battalions for the period of th 30th December, 1917 they all appear under. Any help would be most appreciated, thanking you in anticipation. Yours Sincerely Researching

MaxD Posted 17 October , 2019 Share Posted 17 October , 2019 Welcome Researching! Adding to Bob's info: http://bedfordregiment.org.uk/5thbn/ssaragon.html There are a number of commemorations of the London Regiment men on the Chatby Memorial in Alexandria died 30 Dec 1917. Although they are different battalions, they may have been destined for 2/21st .https://www.cwgc.org/find/find-war-dead/results?regiment=London%2BRegiment&country=Egypt&cemetery=Chatby%2BMemorial&war=1&exactDate=30-12-1917 Max
david murdoch Posted 17 October , 2019 Share Posted 17 October , 2019 Coincidence I was just looking up this incident yesterday due to a chap on my home town war memorial who died on this day and is commemorated on the Chatby memorial. I saw on his pension card he was noted as drowned. Certainly this relates to the Aragon sinking. There are many many hits for this in the Newspaper archives from early January 1918 when news broke of the sinking and also in February 1918 many first hand accounts published from survivors who returned to UK. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMT_Aragon
