Looks very similar to an arrowhead I saw at the Azincourt museum last week for punching through plate armour-but maybe too large

George

PS if you went to the old museum the new one is a serious disappointment

The tip of the Lance, seems likely, the reverse end had a ledge.

Perhaps, if allowance is made for considerable corrosion and deterioration in the ground at both ends over a 100 year period, but I cannot be sure and the overall shape doesn’t seem quite right.  I do not know what the German lance head of Uhlans looked like, but here are some details regarding the British version:

”From 1868 until its final withdrawal from service in 1927, the lance head remained unchanged. The blade was of thick triangular form and hollow ground. The head lacked langets from 1868 and was shellaced onto the shaft despite claims from British cavalry officers that this left the head vulnerable to being cut off in combat. This was remedied in 1894 by doubling the length of the socket of the lance head.”

Greetings from the Royal Forest of Sherwood where the weather today has been beautiful.

For comparison see attached image of an original medieval armour piercing arrowhead.

A great picture of the past thanks for sharing it. My only idea is off the butt end of an entrenching tool handle, possibly modified? Having never seen one in life it is purely a guess. However as Frogsmile suggests it could well be a lance head, the accompanying the spur for cavalry? Regards, Bob.

Second guess would be the end of a tripod post. ie the bit what sticks in the ground. The wood has rotted and left the spike?

From a much earlier campaign..... I'm pretty sure that is the tip of a 17th century pike.

Have you considered even further back timewise? A Roman ballista bolt perhaps?

Looks very similar to this one found at Ham Hill in Somerset......
