Dazscuba Posted 4 October , 2019 Share Posted 4 October , 2019 I am looking at a chap Pte 241924 Richard Farrah who was Killed in Action with the 5th Battalion, Boarder Reg on the 23rd April 1917. i know he will not be in the war diary but am looking for where and what the 5th Battalion were doing when he died then hopefully will be able to get a trench map. A link for ancestry would be good thanks
TEW Posted 4 October , 2019 Share Posted 4 October , 2019 The NA number search method seems to be working again so the easiest method is to find the Ancestry Dairy search page and type in 2831 into the keyword search box and hit enter. WO95/2831 actually has 6 diaries in that series. You could refine the search with a date or hope that the search results identify 5th Borders for you. Otherwise I just jump through the pages 50 at a time until I land on the bit I'm after. TEW
charlie962 Posted 4 October , 2019 Share Posted 4 October , 2019 PS Did you know that there is a photo of him in, I think, the North Eastern Railway Magazine, July 1917, p149 (National Railway Museum) ? There is a transcript of text in FindmyPast
