Remembered Today:

Leasowe Castle - ship's log

I was just wondering where I could find a ships log or crew list for the Leasowe Castle which was torpedoed in 1918. I know my Grandfather James Flynn was a trimmer on board. I’m new this research stuff so any help or information would be very much appreciated Thanks in advance.

Hi Marion and welcome to the forum.

I have edited your post title to try to attract appropriate attention.

Good luck with your research

The National Archives holds an Admiralty report on the loss of the LEASOWE CASTLE (torpedoed in the Mediterranean by the German submarine UB 51 on 27 May 1918 with the loss of 92 lives.  The reference is ADM 137/3584.  The document has not been digitised, so a visit to Kew (or the use of a researcher) would be necessary to see it.  I believe the Crew Agreements will be held by the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Well done JP - I should have thought to search by Official Number.  The ship only had an operational life of a year, so there will not be many Crew Agreements.
