Guest Posted 1 October , 2019 Share Posted 1 October , 2019 I was just wondering where I could find a ships log or crew list for the Leasowe Castle which was torpedoed in 1918. I know my Grandfather James Flynn was a trimmer on board. I’m new this research stuff so any help or information would be very much appreciated Thanks in advance. Admin DavidOwen Posted 1 October , 2019 Admin Share Posted 1 October , 2019 The National Archives list these documents but none have been digitised yet so would probably mean a visit. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4115255 https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C13361684 https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C13361684 https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1733610
Malcolm12hl Posted 1 October , 2019 Share Posted 1 October , 2019 The National Archives holds an Admiralty report on the loss of the LEASOWE CASTLE (torpedoed in the Mediterranean by the German submarine UB 51 on 27 May 1918 with the loss of 92 lives. The reference is ADM 137/3584. The document has not been digitised, so a visit to Kew (or the use of a researcher) would be necessary to see it. I believe the Crew Agreements will be held by the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Malcolm12hl Posted 1 October , 2019 Share Posted 1 October , 2019 Well done JP - I should have thought to search by Official Number. The ship only had an operational life of a year, so there will not be many Crew Agreements.
