RogerWill Posted 29 September , 2019 Share Posted 29 September , 2019 I am working on an account left by a sergeant in the 6th (Service) Battalion of the King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment in Egypt, Syria and Palestine. In the account there was a list of actions he was involved in. I've identified some of these and added the contemporary spelling and the dates of the actions. A few however I've not been able to tie down and am hoping someone here can help with the rest. (1) Hannah [5 April 1916] (2) Fulahyah [Fallayieh, 5 April 1916] (3) Sanaiyat [Sannaiyat, 9 April 1916] (4) Esin [Es Sinn, 19 April 1916] (5) Shoomra Bend [??] (6) Licorice Factory [??] (7) No. 43 Position [??] (8) Kut [28 September 1916] (9) Bighalah [Bagailah, 26 February 1917] (10) Aziziah [Aziziyah, 2 March 1917] (11) Osetphon [Ctesiphon, 6 March 1917] (12) Diyalah [7 March 1917] (13) Baghdad [11 March 1917] (14) Sindia [Sindiyeh, 8 May 1917] (15) Dely Abass [Deli Abbas, 18 October 1917] (16) Kara Tepeh [Quarah Tapah, 6 December 1917] (17) Silahyah [Suhaniyeh, 28 December 1917] (18) Douza Kourmatly [??] (19) Touk [Tuz, 29 April 1918] 112 (20) Kourmatly [Tuz Khurmatli, 1 May 1918] (21) Kirkuk [9 May 1918] (22) Altoun Kupri [possibly Nahrin Kupri, 30 May 1918] Many thanks Roger
seaJane Posted 29 September , 2019 Share Posted 29 September , 2019 Are the locations of 18 & 20 not the same? Can't help with the others, I'm afraid.

Shoomra Bend = Shumran Bend. Liquorice/Licorice Factory: I heard "No. 43" before but can't pinpoint it at the moment. 1 hour ago, RogerWill said: (18) Douza Kourmatly [??] 59 minutes ago, seaJane said: Are the locations of 18 & 20 not the same? Can't help with the others, I'm afraid. It may not be the same location with Tuz Khurmatli/Tuzhurmatu which is located at 34°52'52.12" 44°37'46.18". It's probably the village called Tazehurmatu (35°18'06.46" 44°20'13.83"), 50 km north of Tuz Khurmatli/Tuzhurmatu. 1 hour ago, RogerWill said: (19) Touk [Tuz, 29 April 1918] 112 I think this is Tavuk (also known as Tawuq or Daquq), a village halfway between Tuzhurmatu and Tazehurmatu. Coordinates: 35°08'26.09" 44°27'27.86" 1 hour ago, RogerWill said: (22) Altoun Kupri [possibly Nahrin Kupri, 30 May 1918] Altun Köprü (35°45'03.68" 44°09'41.47") and Narin Köprü are different places. Narin Köprü is to the south of Kara Tepe, near Lake Hamrin. Cheers, Emre Edited 30 September , 2019 by emrezmen

PhilB Posted 18 December , 2019 Share Posted 18 December , 2019 I have to ask, gents - why is the thread title about 6th Loyals while the text is about 6th King’s Own?

Phil, my mistake here. The thread title should have read 6th Kings Own and is now corrected. I suspect the slip crept in for personal reasons: my great grandfather served with the 6th Loyals and was KIA 23 December 1916 in Mesopotamia. RogerWill Posted 2 January , 2020 Author Share Posted 2 January , 2020 (edited) Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this question so far. Good progress has been made and the revised list of actions now looks like this: So, if the above looks correct to you, then the outstanding questions relate to when the 6th Kings Own took part in the actions at: No. 43 Position Dely Abass Kourmatly Correct spellings and additional information on any of the actions would be most welcome. Thanks Roger Edited 2 January , 2020 by RogerWill
