In memory of the five men from the village of Thames Ditton, Surrey, who fell in the attack of 24th Division between Hulluch and Loos on 26 September 1915, the second day of the Battle of Loos.

PRIVATE JOHN WILLIAM EGGLETON, 8th Buffs

PRIVATE WALTER EDWIN GRAY, 9th East Surrey

LANCE CORPORAL THOMAS WILLIAM KEEN, 8th Buffs

PRIVATE WILLIAM JARLETT, 8th Buffs

LANCE CORPORAL HARRY SWIFT MOYCE, 8th Buffs

The first three men were posted missing on the 26th; the other two died of wounds (one in German hands) in the days that followed.

  • 3 months later...

I am at the moment uploading my Grandfathers diary which covers the battle of Loos-le Basse-Hohenzollern when he was medical officer with the 7th battalion East Surrey Regiment. it is a blog on this forum its title "Only With Honour". At present I have loaded June/July 1915, when I get to the relevant dates Sept/October I will try and cover every day during those months if it is of any interest to this thread

regards
