Gabriel Townsend 5th King's Shropshire Light Infantry

In memory of our great uncle Gabriel Townsend, killed 25 September 1915 in the attack made by the 5th Battalion of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry at Bellewaarde near Ypres. His elder brother William in the same unit sustained the first of his four wounds.

 

We have no photograph of Gabriel, but do have his medals and a good collection of his letters and cards.

 

He is named on the war memorial at Little Birch in Herefordshire.

 

 

 

Gabriel has no known grave. He is commemorated at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
