Hugo Posted 23 September , 2019 Author Share Posted 23 September , 2019 Ok, just to be clear, the bayonet is 18 inches long, and I belief the blade is over 13.5 inches long, is this standard for a German 1898/05 Butcher Blade?
calibre792x57.y Posted 23 September , 2019 Share Posted 23 September , 2019 That's okay for a 98/05 which usually have a fourteen inch blade with very slight differences due to grinding. -SW

trajan Posted 30 September , 2019 Share Posted 30 September , 2019 Looks in slightly worse condition than one I found in Syrian desert while out walking one day some 15 years ago! Very much a relic... But that makes it more interesting in its own way. Now, the BIG question, asked here before with no success... I know WHY it was called a 'Butcher bayonet', but WHEN was that term first used? It is not in Farrow, E.S. 1918. A Dictionary of Military Terms. New York: T.Y.Crowell...
