Anyone around or near Thiepval to take a photo

I'm reaching out into forumland in the hope that one of you kind souls may be around Thiepval and in particular the Thiepval Wood and Connaught Cemetery. I believe there is a crater in the wood very close to the cemetery, if it is at all possible to photograph this crater and where it is in relation to the cemetery I would very much appreciate it.

cheers, Jon

Thanks for the reply Chaz. The enlarged shell hole may well be what I’m looking for. During 1926 there was a large explosion very close to the cemetery which broke a large number of headstones at their base. The CWGC photo archive has a number of images of this and the resulting crater. I would like to know where in relation to the cemetery the explosion took place so anything that you are willing to offer would be greatly appreciated. There is an old forum thread regarding this incident but for whatever reason is now locked, you can view a couple of the 1926 photographs there.

cheers, Jon
