I am researching a soldier who was in this unit I would be very grateful for any information  as to what they did during WW1

I have medals to a soldier who was in the unit.

They were formed at Longmoor and comprised of men from the Great Wester railway Company. The company embarked for the BEF on 26.2.1917 and were employed variously in Flanders and France. They have a war diary at TNA which can be downloaded for a small fee:

I have seen the sales description on the internet, which describes him as a despatch rider. Can you say how you know he was with 262 Railway Company?
