Dear all

With a friend we are trying to find a Belgian woman (was she a Red Cross volunteer? A nurse? A sister?) who apparently worked between 1915 and 1919 at Le Touquet, complementary hospital n°35 (in the Hermitage Hotel).

All we have is a notebook that the soldiers dedicated to her (which is why we would like to try and locate her descendants to give it to them) where there are poems, drawings, and clues like "Our belgian angel", "Red Cross lady" - "Hospital n°35, Gallery French", "Belgian nurse" and her name : "Henriette Puraye", and her nickname "La Merluche". From the notebook it seems she is either from Ypres or from Liège.

We checked the usual archives (medical military records, belgian national archives, UK., French, Red Cross nurse listings, the French department archives from Le Touquet etc..), but if you have any idea that could help us we would be deligheted.

I saw on another thread someone posted a letter from a nurse who worked at the Westminster's hospital (which was 5 min from l'Hermitage) and that you managed to find the list of the staff through the diary of Nurse Angois i believe it was?

Therefore, any idea you might have would really help !

Thank you so much.

Oriane.

Hi,

after you went national (archive-wise) have you thought about going local? Ypres/Liege e.g. adressbooks city registers at the city archives?

Best,

GreyC
