GJW Posted 19 September , 2019 Posted 19 September , 2019 Hi, I believe the above was a recepient of The Military Cross. He served with the 3rd Batt. Leinster Regt. May have been attached to Machine Gun Corps. Struggling to find his medal card (the one i found is blank)or medal roll. I believe his gazette info 6496 and dated 3rd June 1918. I believe he may have finished up with a rank of Major I am doing some village research and would dearly appreciate any assistance with this soldier. Many thanks Gerard
IPT Posted 19 September , 2019 Posted 19 September , 2019 (edited) The blank medal card has on it "'Extd. from C3AL Galley". Someone on the forum has queried what this annotation means in the past but without a solution, Officers had to apply for their medals so he may not have done so. Here is the London Gazette entry you mention - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30718/supplement/6496/data.pdf This was a King's birthday honour and so likely for general good service, rather than a specific act of valour. Some other Gazette entries; 2nd Lt on probation - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29084/page/1993/ Confirmed in rank - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29359/supplement/11038/ Capt Mar 17 - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30479/supplement/919/data.pdf Temp. Major Feb 18 - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31010/supplement/13425/data.pdf Edited 19 September , 2019 by IPT
clk Posted 19 September , 2019 Posted 19 September , 2019 (edited) Hi Gerard, His MC index card... Image sourced from the National Archives When he was commissioned it looks like he was assigned the admin number of 112687, continuing in service post war with the admin number of P42822. Image sourced from the National Archives The MoD would appear to have what remains of his service file. Regards Chris Edited 19 September , 2019 by clk

HarryBrook Posted 19 September , 2019 Posted 19 September , 2019 Placed on the Regular Army Reserve of Officers 15 March 1923 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/32856/page/5766 Ceased to belong to the Regular Army Reserve of Officers having attained the age limit for recall 28 January 1937 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/34364/page/623
GJW Posted 19 September , 2019 Author Posted 19 September , 2019 Thank you all. Most helpful and informative as usual. Yes a most beautiful house, I know it well. Seemingly the Wright's family line ceased recently and It passed into the wider family who cashed in. I believe the last male in line served in WW2. Gerard
sadbrewer Posted 20 September , 2019 Posted 20 September , 2019 In the casualty list as wounded...published 23rd July 1916.

The article is primarily about his sister, but adds bits about the other siblings. All it says about him is that he was living in Nyasaland at that date
