I believe it's Gin Avenue and not Gin Alley you're looking for as both Fifteen Alley and Gin Avenue both appear on the NW outskirts of Gonnelieu.

Fifteen Alley - 57cSE2 R20.c.d

Gin Avenue - 57cSE2 R26 b.d and R27 a.

map dated March 1918

Jonbem and Jay- thank you for your speedy response.

From the War Diary of 2 Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders:

‘A patrol under Capt Gibson explored Gin Avenue (sap) but after penetrating about 60 yds Germans opened such rapid machine gun fire that patrol had to be withdrawn’

‘a reconnaissance was made by C Coy on the left and discovered  a German working party digging a new trench and wiring it connecting Gin Alley to Fifteen Alley … about 150 yards from our front line… cannot be seen ‘

‘6pm btn relieved by 5th Camerons and moved back to Gouzeaucourt Wood into trenches’

I'll check the map references Jonbem and see where it puts the btn.

once again many thanks

May I ask what source do you use to discover the trench names?
