Would have thought this would motivate the WFA, if nothing else.

too much haste with fingers - or is it a case of autocorrect/predictive???

The WFA haven't had a great year and I worry that they are not learning that the way in which they communicate does matter.  There are of course going to be different views on the replacements (or initial issues - I have no recollection of ever receiving one). Are they really necessary?  What is definitely unnecessary is the attitude of the WFA in response to questions on the subject of the cards. I have just had the  most bizarre conversation with them which included staggering accusations against me. I really have no alternative but to complain to the chairman about the messages (they weren't from Colin).  It seems that nothing has been learned (learnt?).

So sorry you have been dragged so personally into this - but the matter or cards and of communications are very important to most members

Thanks for your support

You most certainly don't need to apologise; thank you for your support.

Last night I replied to the email from the WFA stating my reservations.  Just after 2pm today I received a message from the WFA - this is the message I referred to above. It said that I had written something negative in public. Which I hadn't.  My first negative and public comment was on here where I mentioned the message from the WFA. Just so we are all clear as to what I am saying, the message from the WFA (accusing me of disparaging the WFA) came before I posted anything on the GWF.

So my conclusion is that someone is being mischievous. Someone who is a GWF member and is also in the hierarchy of the WFA I suspect. I may be wrong but I am not sure how else this could have come about.

Just so we are all clear, I am a member of the WG that is trying to reform the WFA.

Perhaps someone is thinking back to the BdW thread?

I replied to the WFA e-mail and got my reply from them before I started this thread [Didn't want to, but I was in despair!]

I now await another e-mail and fear being escorted from the building by a policeman - shouldn't be a 'crime' for members to make their honest opinion and suggestion known to HQ {sorry was that too political?]

Thought for reform of the WFA - if they don't want public discusssion on the GWF then perhaps have a private WFA members' forum available instead.

Viva la revolution!

Now, what are we going to get regarding recognition of our WFA membership? - A cardless on a phone, or a valid e-mail acknowledgement, system would probably do better than any amount of plastic! [or paper card for that matter]

Onwards ...

I quite like the new cards

I have chosen option 3 (working Party)

You cannot stop progress

as for the environmental impact, compared to the tons of plastic I place in my recycling bin every year

the environmental impact of a few thousand cards could be likened to a mere drop of rain in a thunderstorm

My original card, that was issued to me back in 1992 was plastic and stayed with me until last year, when I had my wallet stolen.

Sent for a replacement, which was a paper card one.

In all those years, I’ve never had to produce at any meetings I attended.

Sorry Ray - Progress? - I'm think of all the unnecessary plastic going to end up floating around the environment.

Recycling bin - great, but such membership cards cannot be recycled. [think of all those library, gym, reade'rs tickets etc. that all fall in the same category - I got one without asking the other day - for one visit to an archive I will never visit again! - plastic cards for cash machines etc., perhaps, but even now that is going contactless and cardless = Progress?

Are you taking your card to the grave with you? - perhaps as ID for an archeologist of the future?

Personally I thnk we can all do a lot better - and would encourage all to do so.

And would probably would have lasted a while, a long while longer, yet.

WFA are planning to issue/replace cards without even asking if one is required.

Sorry to hear about the theft - anyway, any replacement cost charged by WFA could probably be added to an insurance claim if one was made.

As I have heard from so many other members - why is a card of any sort, let alone plastic, really needed???

Seems you are also on my side.

Come on team!

Ray, it is not progress, unless you are referring to the continuation of the wrecking of our planet.

Well let's ban all plastic then

Which will leave me with nothing to pay all my bills with :D

Direct from WFA  received Wednesday 4 September - Requesting I make a choice of a plastic card [from 6 options - no others offered]

Obviously I didn't choose a plastic one - just queried the poor choice of plastic [and one of the designs]

Got a reply late 6 Sept. - both ideas not well received at WFA!

And the rest is history as they say

Power to the members!

Won't criticise you, or anyone else who has the same, for that because that plastic is done and past, but ... If already plastic, does it need replacing?  Would you be happy to keep it?

Been in my wallet since I received it. A bit grubby but still legible. Never been asked to produce it.

Clearly there are differing views on plastic cards and it’s unlikely that we will reconcile them in here. I still think Terry was right, do we really need them? But I can’t help think that, yet again, there is a bigger issue here: WFA comms and how they respond to criticism.

Maybe the WFA lurker can reveal themselves and join the discussion?

Cards - I'm more than happy to hear from them why plastic is considered so good - all round, including the environment.

I have the name of the Trustee/project manager - but think e-mail comment should be sent to officeATwesternfrontassociationDOTcom and be addressed to ALL Trustees and senior officers - e.g. branch Chairs - and a wider opinion poll established

Or multi non-plastic options.

Or just a quiet strategic withdrawal by WFA on this whole matter ???

As for Comms - lessons should be learnt and better comms practice strongly advised!

That'll be the members, who after the all the fuss made about the 'Butte' not one was prepared to step forward for the committee!

Have you asked your banks the same question? I know 'every little helps' but the number of cards in question must be miniscule compared to the number of credit cards issued every day and then reissued every three/four years.

Personally, I like the new cards and will be ordering mine.
