Stanley Hender Appears on Felstead Roll of Honour as Lieut. S. Henderson
Was a member of staff at Felsted School Feb 1914 to Aug 1914. Michael Craze in his 'History of Felsted School' book records him as Lieutenant S. Henderson of the school OTC joined the Essex Regiment.

 

CV:

Officers of OTC.  WWI: As soon as the War Office gave its tardy permission to leave the Corps he enlisted in Aug 1914 with 9th Bn. Essex Regt; 27th Group RAF. 9th (S.) Bn. Essex Regt;Temp. Lt 17 Jul 15; in France with 9th Bn, wounded at Hulluch 18 Oct 15; on the Somme Aug 1916; in Italy with RAF;  promoted as Capt RAF HQ, 27th Group, Army Educational Officer.

18 Nov 1916: Essex R. Temp Lt. S. Henderson relinquishes the temp. rank of Capt. On ceasing comd. a Co. 3 July 1916.
31 May 1917: Adjts. Temp. Lt. S. Henderson, Essex R., and .... to be transfd. Gen List
7 Aug 1917: Gen. List. – The undermentioned Adjts. To be temp. Capts. (without the pay or allowances of that rank) …. Temp. Lt. S. Henderson, Gen. List.
9 June 1920: Essex R. Temp. Lt. S. Henderson resigns his commission on appt. to R.A.F. 1 Apr 1918.
8 Oct 1918: The undermentioned temporary appointments are made at the Air Ministry:- Staff Officers, 3rd Class: Capt S. Henderson
10 June 1919: The undermentioned temporary appointments are made at the Air Ministry:- Staff Officers, 3rd Class: Capt S. Henderson, 31st May, 1919.

Does the short service record above come from  his officer file at Kew? If not, then happy to look at the file and report back in near future (ie when I can walk properly again). If there is a file, of course.....

My candidate is:

Stanley Henderson - son of Wallace Carter Henderson and his wife Edith nee Turner.

Born:  22 February 1890, Northampton

Baptised: 29 March 1890, Northampton All Saints

1911: Undergraduate. Boarding in Somerset with Mildred Ponting and her son Sidney Frank Ponting (18) - a student Teacher.

Marriage: Apr-May-Jun 1917, St George Hanover Square, to Mary Frank Pembroke

1939 Census:  Living in Epsom. Deputy Assistant Sec. London Chamber of Commerce. Part time ARP Warden.

Died: 13 January 1982. Death Index confirms DOB as 22/02/1890.

To add to JP's post #4, his R.A.F. service record confirms his attachment to the R.A.F. from 9th Bn. Essex Regt., date of birth - 22 February 1890, N.O.K. (wife) Mrs. S. Henderson, 32, Carlyle Square, Chelsea, London, S.W.3, "occupation in civil life" - schoolmaster at Felsted School, Essex.
