MaxD Posted 3 September , 2019 Share Posted 3 September , 2019 The term that appears to be "trepurie" is obviously related to barbed wire, can't find it anywhere - does anyone know? Max

MaxD Posted 3 September , 2019 Author Share Posted 3 September , 2019 Absolutely right Craig. Just found it in another account of the raid. Many thanks. Max

MaxD Posted 4 September , 2019 Author Share Posted 4 September , 2019 Gunner Bailey The extract was from 8 KLR war diary for April 1916 of the start of the trench raid in which 2 Lt EF Baxter was awarded the VC. If it is of interest, there is a very detailed account by CO 8 KLR of the preparations for, and the conduct of, the trench raid, with diagrams, in the 55th Division HQ war diary WO 95/2899/1. Gunner Bailey Posted 4 September , 2019 Share Posted 4 September , 2019 I always am surprised by the details in some War Diaries. A few are incredibly detailed whilst others might have "Trench raid on x trench, Lt x and ten men. Two prisoners, one o/r wounded one missing". Etc. Its great when the details are there. MaxD Posted 4 September , 2019 Author Share Posted 4 September , 2019 The CO's account is, in my eyes at least, an absolutely classic description of a trench raid, worthy of a piece on LLT (if those fine folk are listening. Max
