Remembered Today:

Hedley Malloch

VC winner’s death plaque

VC medals are beyond many (all?) of us, but a death plaque for one has just come on the market.

How did the plaque become separated from the medal? I feel that collections lose their emotional power when they are broken up.

The seller is a dealer. I hope that dealers will enjoy a revival given the usurious hike in charges recently announced by one leading medal auction house.

I wonder if the well known VC collector will pick it up? Does he have the VC? Or is it held by someone else?

He does, or at least it's on display with his collection

edit:

Per Mr Midshipman VC by Quentin Falk, the medal had been in the 'care' of Merchant Taylors' School since 1918 and was transfered to the IWM in 1996.

The first VC to be awarded to an officer of the RNR and the Merchant Service
