Function of 24 Training Squadron RFC?

Service records of a relative show him posted to 24 Training Squadron on 21 January 1918 but was then posted to 8 Training Squadron on 13 February.  His flying logbook shows that his first lfight occurred at the latter unit. 

 

Did 24 Training Squadron provide specific training (eg additional ground school courses) or was my relative's posting to 24 Training Squadron simply a bureaucratic mistake?

 

Any thoughts/suggestions most gratefully received.
