doogal Posted 3 February , 2005 Share Posted 3 February , 2005 Hi, I think photo 2 is very incongruous - all set up and posing for war in what looks like a peaceful and undisturbed back garden. they look like summertime to me - do you know when they were taken? regards doogal
Laurent Posted 4 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 4 February , 2005 More infos about I.R 459 . "Artois The division occupied the sector of Cherisy (southeast of Arras) from June 4th to September 2nd, and did not get into any serious action during this period." AndyHollinger Posted 4 February , 2005 Share Posted 4 February , 2005 I, too, think #2 is staged ... not in any propaganda sense ... but for the photo ... too neat and the faces are too clear. The third, though, is fascinating. Perhaps a "gather 'round boys type of shot. To me it gives a good picture of what trench life must have been like - on a dry, warm summer day, anyway. These pictures often incite my mind to wonder what the subsequent lives of the figures depicted were like. What happened to all these guys? Those that made it through ... in Weimar ... during the initial Nazi stages ... under allied bombs ... My gosh those were tremulous times.
Guest max stiebritz Posted 10 March , 2005 Share Posted 10 March , 2005 Here are a couple more IR459 pictures... Meet JR459's only Regimental Commander, Major Friedrich von Pirscher. Notice the Pour le Merite around his neck. His other awards are both classes of the Iron Cross and the Hohernzollen Hausorden (sorry we cannot tell what the last ribbon is, too bad it's not a color picture).
