Margosh Posted 28 August , 2019 Share Posted 28 August , 2019 Remembering today Major Alan Faber Hobson DSO, killed in action 28th August 1916 aged 23. According to information he was struck in the neck by shrapnel near Thiepval and died on his way to the dressing station. He is buried at Bouzincourt Communal Cemetery Extension. As part of my family research I read the War Diary of 2/1st West Ridiing Field Company as this was my grandad's company. For much of the time the diary was written by Major Hobson, and I felt an attachment having read his handwriting and descriptions over so many months. I felt a jolt when the handwriting changed in August and listed his death. Two years ago I visited the cemetery to pay my respects. As an ex pupil of Rugby School he has a detailed entry, with personal tributes from fellow soldiers and officers, in their roll of honour: http://rugbyschoolarchives.co.uk/RollofHonour.aspx?RecID=340&TableName=ta_rollofhonour&BrowseID=14 More or less the same information is in the roll of honour of Lloyds Members. On behalf of my Grandfather, RIP Major Hobson, rest well. Margaret
