Tom Lang Posted 24 August , 2019 Posted 24 August , 2019 I am researching this soldier and I'm stuck looking for his MIC and Medal Rolls. He is buried in my local cemetery (see attached CWGC Gravestone), so I assume he was either discharged or was sent home to recuperate from wounds, and died while at home. I have built a small family tree for this soldier on Ancestry. I have searched Ancestry, but there is no trace of a MIC or Medal Rolls. I assume that he was previously serving in another Regiment, and was transferred to the Tank Corps. I have searched for a War Diary, but still no joy. I have no ability when it comes to the Tank Corps. Is there a kind Tank Corps GWF guru who can get me past this hurdle? Kindest Regards.

He died at Bovington Military Hospital. Craig

PRC Posted 24 August , 2019 Posted 24 August , 2019 I don't know if its any help to you, but Bovington was then in the Wareham Civil Registration District. The only McLeish recorded as having died in the Wareham District in the October to December quarter of 1918 was a Daniel McLeish, aged 23. Hopefully that ties up with the family tree you have built. Cheers, Peter
david murdoch Posted 24 August , 2019 Posted 24 August , 2019 (edited) He does not appear on the Larkhall war memorial, however he is listed on the memorial website in the list of "other soldiers found" with links to Larkhall. Again only referred to as D.McLeish. There is one matching Daniel McLeish in the 1911 Census being 16 years old at the time. Living in Dalserf. Parents Daniel and Elisabeth, and occupation coal miner. There is no David McLeish the right age in the Census. Definitely him - Soldiers effects clearly note him as David but giving his widow as Georgina. He(Daniel) married Georgina McLelland in Dalserf in January 1917 - on his marriage cert his occupation is coal miner, so not in the army at that time. There is no Service Return death record for him in Scotlands People which indicates he never served overseas. Though he qualified for CWGC headstone as he died while in service. So looking for an English death certificate to find cause of death. Edited 24 August , 2019 by david murdoch
Gareth Davies Posted 24 August , 2019 Posted 24 August , 2019 There isn't a WD as they didn't deploy. The Bn was formed in Sep 1918 and disbanded in 1919.

So looking for an English death certificate to find cause of death. The website you refer, is one that I built. While researching those named on the Larkhall War Memorial, I came across 'others' with a connection to Larkhall. I am now working through that list and Daniel McLeish is one of those, particularly since his CWGC gravestone is in Larkhall Cemetery. I have his birth, marriage and census records, and can confirm that his birth record shows that his name is Daniel McLeish. The Ancestry record is a bit of a red herring, and has the 'usual' mis-spelling, especially "Lancs Corp". But many thanks for your help. Tom. It also explains why there is no MIC or Medal Rolls. Tom.
