Mark1959 Posted 22 August , 2019 Posted 22 August , 2019 What exactly are you after? What do you know so far? From your comments I suspect you have seen his few existing service papers.
MaxD Posted 22 August , 2019 Posted 22 August , 2019 If you haven't seen it, his service record is on Ancestry at: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/1219/gbrmil1914r4pt2_139197-00497?pid=696327&backurl=https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc%3DMvA6630%26_phstart%3DsuccessSource%26usePUBJs%3Dtrue%26indiv%3D1%26dbid%3D1219%26gsfn%3DThomas%26gsln%3DFlood%26cp%3D0%26qh%3D9c0Azpf0zapRPUQfqQo5fA%3D%3D%26_F8007A65%3D10317%26new%3D1%26rank%3D1%26uidh%3D6x5%26redir%3Dfalse%26gss%3Dangs-d%26pcat%3D39%26fh%3D0%26h%3D696327%26recoff%3D%26ml_rpos%3D1&treeid=&personid=&hintid=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=MvA6630&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true#?imageId=gbrmil1914r4pt2_139197-00499 as are his medal records. The 1914 Star roll shows his arrival in France with 1st Battalion as 26 Sep 1914 which is the right month, his record has 26 August which is when they left India. The convention is that the date of leaving for somewhere counts as the beginning of being there (if that makes sense). His soldiers' effects register is also to be found on Ancestry. The battalion war diary is at: .https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/60779/43112_3923_0-00000?backurl=&ssrc=&backlabel=Return#?imageId=43112_3923_0-00001 Casualties on 26 April were 15 of 20 officers killed or wounded and 361 other ranks of 900 killed wounded or missing. Their part in the action was at La Brique, north east of Ypres, map/image at: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=14&lat=50.8735&lon=2.9042&layers=101464897&right=BingHyb (ignore the trench lines, the map is from 1917). A bit from the British Newspaper Archive you might find interesting.
