Guest Posted 22 August , 2019 Posted 22 August , 2019 My Grandfather fought with the 8th Btn. of the Scottish Rifles, his name was William Leckie Tyre and he died in a battle on the 28th June 1915 at Gallipoli. I have no photos of him, I have no idea what he looked like. If by some miracle somebody has a photo. I'd love to put it with his medals that I'm having restored and framed. His service number was 9597. I have the war diary of his battalion too. Thank you.
Pat Atkins Posted 22 August , 2019 Posted 22 August , 2019 Where did he come from? Local newspapers often printed photos of local casualties, you might get lucky there. Good luck, Pat
BillyH Posted 22 August , 2019 Posted 22 August , 2019 It looks like he lived on the Isle of Bute, which probably makes it more difficult for newspapers? If it is Isle of Bute then Rhoma would be well advised to include it in the post title (in place of 8th Scottish Rifles). We might have a member who has knowledge of the casualties there. BillyH.
BillyH Posted 22 August , 2019 Posted 22 August , 2019 Also have a look at these 2 links, you could send a message to the original posters and ask if they could do a look up for you. https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/163610-i-am-able-to-assist-with-the-following-areas-in-scotland/?tab=comments#comment-1589875 https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/238434-burgh-of-rothesay-and-isle-of-bute/?tab=comments#comment-2390074 BillyH.
