JohnC Posted 21 August , 2019 Posted 21 August , 2019 Can anyone point me towards a source of information regarding Schutze (rifleman/marksman?) Boger of 1 MG Kompanie of Infanterie Regiment 164 please? I have recently acquired a very battered German map, dated 1st March 1918, which is held together on the rear by his sticky labels for field post (below). Some hand drawn markings on the map correspond exactly to 164's movements during the Spring Offensive and afterwards, as per their regimental history, so I'm pretty sure that it was his property. I bought it from a German dealer which raises at least the possibility that he survived to take the map home with him. I would very much like to know more of his story and would be grateful of any assistance towards sources. Thanks, John
AOK4 Posted 21 August , 2019 Posted 21 August , 2019 Hello, A Schütze is a private - trained machine gunner. I fear it is almost impossible to find out anything more about the man as you don't even have his first name. Remember the Kriegsstammrollen have not survived... Jan
charlie2 Posted 21 August , 2019 Posted 21 August , 2019 There is an entry in the 1915 casualty lists for an Eduard Böger, IR164 but there is no way of being sure it is the right person. http://des.genealogy.net/search/show/2872203 Charlie
JohnC Posted 22 August , 2019 Author Posted 22 August , 2019 Jan, Charlie - thanks for the tips. I just wondered if the German army had any surviving equivalent of our medal card rolls, for example. Not my specialism at all. J
