One of my ancestors, Sidney Rooks, served as a private in the 8th Devons. His service number was 20629. I have his medal card and medal roll listing. I have so far been unable to discover when he may have enlisted. Sidney was born in Devon in 1896. Can anyone help?

#20620 was issued on 4 Nov 1915 so #20629 was issued on or slightly afterwards.

I see he is in the Casualty List of 22/8/16 suggesting wounding early July 1916 (Somme ?). Just says Wounded, Devonshire Regt, 20629.
