BBithell Posted 10 August , 2019 Share Posted 10 August , 2019 Lewis Bithell, Private 40429 of the South Staffs regiment, died of his wounds on the 18th October 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele. I have found various documents but can anyone steer me towards the War diaries for this regiment at this time please? Regards, Bryan

BBithell Posted 11 August , 2019 Author Share Posted 11 August , 2019 No, I don't have that article. I'd be grateful if you could send the link please. Thanks everyone for the information, he was my 1st cousin, 3x removed, a cousin of my great grandfather and I've only just found him. Up until that point I had thought that my family had been unusually lucky but it proves that I was being naive in my view.

BBithell Posted 11 August , 2019 Author Share Posted 11 August , 2019 Thank you fo that - I had found and saved this many months ago and not thought them anything to do with my family and you have reminded me I have it. As always it raises another question - an adopted brother - my immediate ancestors are all known for being tall so who knows what happened there
