War Grave Inscription

Can any please advise me, I have recently returned from Ypres after having found my Great Uncles grave stone from the 2nd world war, we are the first family members to find and visit him. We discovered that there was an inscription on the bottom of the stone 'until we meet again' I have been told that a family member would have had this put on, does anyone know how we could possibly find out which family member had this put on just after the war ended. I would be very grateful for any help.

Sometimes there are details on the ‘Headstone’ entry if you search here:

Do you have his name and Regiment?

If it's JH Ayley RAOC then it was from Wife Lena & daughter Roma.

Hi Julie

For WW1 there were Final Verification Forms which the family completed. These were pulped for the war effort in WW2 and I don't know what happened post-1945.

You could try WW2Talk as I will lock this topic as it is off topic for us.
