trajan Posted 4 August , 2019 Posted 4 August , 2019 (edited) Spotted this a month or so back at the Antika Pazari and it was there again this morning - different dealer and grossly inflated price!. I know that some of you P.1907 chappies, and especially my dear mate JMB, like ricasso markings, so I thought I'd post it! Edited 4 August , 2019 by trajan
JMB1943 Posted 4 August , 2019 Posted 4 August , 2019 Hello Trajan, You did have a good Sunday morning at the Antika P! Since my name was invoked, I am of course obligated to set the ball rolling with this one. A nice early (3 ‘09), de-hooked, JAC stamped (before they went largely to CHAPMAN in about 1915/6) P. ‘07. I had not previously seen the crown / 35 / RE re-inspection stamp; looks like it went in for repair in 1912 and ‘15, at least. The top screw-bolt and nut seem to be nicely aligned— I wonder if the grips have ever been off. Can I assume no unit marking on the pommel, so no photo? Any sign of a matching scabbard? By the by, good sharp focus on the close-ups! Regards, JMB
Dave66 Posted 4 August , 2019 Posted 4 August , 2019 I knew I’d seen that 35 over RE somewhere on one of mine, just checked and turns out it’s on a very similar early chapman with quilon removed. Dave.
5thBatt Posted 5 August , 2019 Posted 5 August , 2019 The RE inspection mark appears to be a Enfield Repair marking, it appears on lots of rifles as well of all manufactures

I was certain I had seen somewhere relatively recent a discussion here on these 35/RE stamps and was certain it was you JMB... No, no unit marking, and nothing out of the ordinary on the scabbard... THanks for the comment on the photograph - I always used to take my Nikon with me but SWMBO suggested I try her I-Phone 6, and it does seem to work a treat - and easier to use! 13 hours ago, Dave66 said: I knew I’d seen that 35 over RE somewhere on one of mine, just checked and turns out it’s on a very similar early chapman with quilon removed. Cheers Dave, so clearly it wan't you who were discussing these marks about two months back? 10 hours ago, 5thBatt said: The RE inspection mark appears to be a Enfield Repair marking, it appears on lots of rifles as well of all manufactures Many thanks for that information!
