Noyes16 Posted 3 August , 2019 Posted 3 August , 2019 Hi All, A friend of mine was recently given Pip (1914 Star), Squeak and Wilfred, by his mother. She said they belonged to her grandfather Alfred Frederick Pollard. The medals show that he was a Private with the ASC. His service number was M33739. I know that the 'M' prefix denotes that he was involved with the Mechanised Transport side of the ASC but any other information people may be able to provide would be great. Many thanks, Robin
Waggoner Posted 3 August , 2019 Posted 3 August , 2019 It appears that he served in the 8th Divisional Ammunition Park. These were mechanized units that transported ammunition between the railhead and the horse-drawn Divisional Ammunition Columns that subsequently delivered the ammunition to the artillery batteries. All the best, Gary
Gardenerbill Posted 4 August , 2019 Posted 4 August , 2019 The number M33739 is an early ASC number indicating that he was in the ASC before the war. Assuming there isn't a service record, if you have an Ancestry or FMP subscription you could look for service records of near numbers that will give an indication of when he attested.
