Harry Heald RFA 1044543

Harry Heald died in Netley General Hospital in 1922 so would not qualify as a War Casualty. He served as Driver 1044543 in the Royal Field Artillery, I have found a pension card via the WFA search facility. He was allegedly awarded the MM in addition to Campaign Medals but I can find nothing in MIC Cards. His brother Albert was killed in October 1918 and his obituary makes reference that Harry was serving at the Front at that time.

He has an entry in Soldiers Effects which confirms his service number, but perhaps he served under another number earlier in the war.

Any help gratefully received

Thank you

Hi

There are no MIC's for that service number. There are 4 Harry Heald, Artillery. That number doesn't get any hits on the LG site.

The Royal Artillery Attestations 1883-1942 on Findmypast gives an earlier Regular number of 265915. It also says that he served 3 years 111 days in the TF as 780913. His TF number indicates enlistment in October 1915 (originally as 3358) in 2nd West Riding Brigade RFA and subsequent number is re-enlistment (in the field) on January 31, 1919. His Medal Index Card does not show an award of a Military Medal (neither does the Attestation record). He seems to have been discharged on August 4, 1922 as Permanently Unfit having obtained a new Army number in August 1920.
