Guest Fraser Posted 4 June , 2003 Share Posted 4 June , 2003 Hello All. I wonder if anyone can help me with a search for new sources. The 2/5th Battalion West Yorks is not the most famous of units, but a relative of mine (Capt Geoffrey Skirrow) served in it for most of the war up to its disbandment in July 1918. He was killed with the KOYLI a few weeks later. I am working on an article about him and the Battalion, but I am afraid I may have exhausted the published sources and was wondering if anyone knows of new places to look for information. I have the Divisional History (Wyrall) and the History of the West Yorks in the Great War (also Wyrall), a brief pamphlet on the 1st and 2nd Fifth published in the 1930’s and the History of the 2/6th with whom they were brigaded for most of the war. I have also been through the War Diaries at the PRO. However – the Imperial War and National Army museums have no papers or letters, no memoirs seem to have been published by officers or men and the Regimental Museum has the same texts I have. Can anyone point me at something I have missed?
Greenwoodman Posted 4 June , 2003 Share Posted 4 June , 2003 I wonder if you've tried the Liddle Collection at Leeds University? Its relatively local, so perhaps its worth a shot. There's a Summary Guide here:- Liddle Collection
