kidd1986 Posted 2 February , 2005 Share Posted 2 February , 2005 I was trying to find my great grandfather on the MIC online. I have a photo of him from 1915 and he is in the Northern Cyclist battalion but I cannot find an mic card with his name and that of the NCB, I have been told he was in the Northumberland Fusiliers. Is this a usual occurence? Would he get an MIC card if he didnt serve abroad in a theatre of war. Thanks
Blackblue Posted 2 February , 2005 Share Posted 2 February , 2005 A MIC is a 'Medal Index Card' and outlines medals and Silver War Badge awards. If he did not see active service and was not entitled to medals or a Silver War Badge he will not have one. It is not unusual for me to serve with a variety of units. Many men enlisted with a unit at home and were then drafted to another unit with which they saw active service. Can you post what details you have? Sometimes names are mispelt etc. Rgds Tim
kidd1986 Posted 2 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 2 February , 2005 His name was William Thomas Hutchinson, he is from the north east (newcastle area, though I am not sure of exact places). We have a photo of him in Army service dress with the cap badge of the Northern Cyclist Battalion, dated 1915. I have been told he was in the Northumberland Fusiliers (but the NCB were previously known as the 8th btn Northumberland fusiliers), I dont know much more than this. I am going to find out more details when I can. Thanks, Ben
Blackblue Posted 2 February , 2005 Share Posted 2 February , 2005 Hi Ben, As you probably found there are plenty of William Hutchinsons who served with one RE and one Suffolks. Can you post the photo at all and do you have any other photos? There may be something there that helps with narrowing him down. Do you know where his medals are or are there any other documents with other family members? Rgds Tim D
