Royal Irish Rifles compared to Royal Irish Fusiliers- enlistment 1914

Greetings Forum,

 

I am interested in understanding the social standing and cultural conditioning for enlistees (rank and officer) in the Royal Irish Rifles as compared to Royal Irish Fusiliers in the early war period.

 

Was one unit more prestigious than the other? Was it all locally based? For officer candidates did one unit offer a better chance of higher advancement? Where there any actual, tactical differences between these units at this time or where the difference name only?
