Here is a photo of my Grandfather taken at  Camp Cody in Deming, New Mexico 1918.  He was a member of the 62 Fld Arty, 97 Division, never made it overseas but thought you guys might like to see it.

Welcome to the forum Sapper44 and thank you for sharing an interesting photograph. I'm not well up on US Uniforms, is that a typical US Field Artillery uniform?

Welcome to the forum,

And thank you for sharing your photograph.

When did he leave the Army, do you have his records?

I don't know a lot about the US side of things, but I do find it most interesting.

Welcome to the forum.

I believe the attached is his WW1 draft card. It comes from the familysearch website which also has a WW2 draft card for him as well. The next image in the WW1 series is a 28 year old Joseph Schatz of the same address.

Cheers,

Peter

Yep that is him.  From what I understand is that he was released from service soon after the war ended, and went back to work at the Rock Island Arsenal. He had 2 sons, My grandfather and his brother, both went into the service in WWII and my grandfather who went into the USMC had one son (my father) who also went into the service and retired from the Army as a Lt.Col. My grandfather had an interesting time in the service he started out in the USMC and left in 1948 as a staff sergeant, joined the US Army after they offered him a commission and retired in 1968 as a Major.

As far as I know that is just his everyday uniform in WW1.
